Wake up sid: a refreshing movie

I think Wake up sid is a good movie. The treatment of the movie is little bit different from the usual Hindi films. But, I don't think it is exactly a coming of age movie. Well I am not a very big fan of typical Hindi film, especially Karan Johar type movie. I was very skeptical, when I went to watch this movie. But, the movie certainly surprised me. I cannot believe that Karan Johar can produce such a movie. What surprised me was that there was no overacting, no melodrama, no maa beta sentiments, or neither there was hero showing off his dancing ability or machismo image in college.

The protagonist of Wake up Sid is a boy named Sidharth, who is studying B.com and fails in the exam. Well, he is not very serious about his life. He takes life as granted. His interest is in reading comic books, playing video games and late night partying. But, he is ideal and good boy as he is not interested in porn or girls! He lives of his father's money and is not very serious about earning some. His father is a business man. He invites Sid to his office, so that he can learn some business and takeover the business . But, he is not interested in this office work. He bunks the office. This and his failure in exam causes some quarrel between him and his father. This led him to quit his house and take shelter in his friend Aysha. He came to know Aysha in a party. Aysha is older than Sid and has come to Bombay from Culcutta to become a journalist. Aysha is alone in Bombay and Sid helps her to find a flat in Mumbai. A relationship does develope between Aysha and Sid, but Aysha thinks that Sid is immature and childish and she is looking for some real man.

Sid lives with Aysha, but ironically they don't have any type of romantic or physical relationship. It seems little bit odd. It is obvious that the story line is inspired from some Hollywood film, especially it reminds me of a Uma thurman film. In Hollywood films its sure that they have sex if a boy and girl lives under a roof. Here, oddly there is no such relationship.

Aysha eventually gets irritated by Sid's indiscipline and scolds him, and accuses him of being childish. This makes Sid to become little more disciplined. He then decides to do some job. He gets a job in the same office where Aysha works, as a photographic intern.

In this way Sid improves and becomes little bit serious about life and the hero and heroine realises there love and becomes united.

Well, the movie certainly is not like usual Karan Johar movie. That's what make me love this movie. There is no unnecessary emotional scenes or unnecessary song scenes or unrealistic romantic sequences. But the movie certainly is not a 100% realistic movie. I think the young director Ayan Mukherji is a talented guy and I think he should be given credit to do such a film as his debut film. The movie's casual non filmy dialogues and natural looking scenes makes it easy to realate with the movie and its characters. We can see lots of fresh faces, who have done a good job.

I think Ranbir Kapoor has done a good job as Sidharth. His innocence in some scenes is certainly overwhelming. He certainly looks cute. This is my first Ranbir Kapoor movie. After watching this movie I have become fan of Ranbir. Another that make me love him is his resemblance to his mother Neethu Singh, who is my favourite actress. I think he should do such movies. Konkona Sen also did very good job. I think director did justice to the movie by choosing Konkona Sen not any other glamourus actress.

The movie does have many flaws, but the movie is watchable and refreshing. I think bollywood should produce such realistic movies often. And I hope they will do.
